Fingerprinting

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) visits Washburn Law in January and September so students preparing their bar examination applications can be fingerprinted. Students are notified on this page and via e-mail about KBI visits.

For the Fee Schedule and the Kansas Petition for Admission to the Bar of the State of Kansas by Written Examination visit the Kansas Attorney Admissions website. As of October 2009 the bar examination fee is $400.00

Application Deadlines:

Every applicant to the Kansas Bar must submit a properly completed fingerprint card (see sidebar). The Office also has available a brochure that provides information about the bar application and the character and fitness investigation processes.

NOTE: Effective February 2006, the Kansas Supreme Court will no longer include the Multistate Essay Examination on the Kansas Bar Exam. Instead, a new format for essay questions is being adopted. There will be 16 questions, all drafted by the Kansas Board of Law Examiners. Eight questions will be administered in the morning and 8 in the afternoon. Topics covered by the essay exam questions include: personal property, domestic relations and family law, noncorporate business organizations, agency and employment, Uniform Commercial Code and commercial transactions, legal ethics, contracts, corporations, real property, constitutional law, criminal law, criminal procedure, Kansas and federal civil procedure, torts, wills, trusts and administration, conflict of laws, and evidence.
