Debt and Credit Counseling

Wednesday, September 28 — Noon - 12:50 p.m. — Room 114
A representative from Housing and Credit Counseling will give a presentation on managing debt and credit on a day-to-day basis while in law school. He will provide handouts and suggest resources to get your financial life organized. All students are encouraged to attend and lunch will be served to those students who RSVP on Symplicity. This event is sponsored by the PDO and Dean of Students.

Thursday, September 29 — Noon - 1:30 p.m. — Room 114
National Student Loan Expert Heather Jarvis will explain how graduates can participate in federal loan forgiveness programs. The program is for first- and second-year students. Space is limited so be sure to sign up on Symplicity. The event WILL be recorded.

Student Loan Relief for 3Ls & Graduates

Thursday, September 29 — 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.— Room 114
National Student Loan Expert Heather Jarvis will provide information to third-year students and recent alumni about income-based repayment and public service loan forgiveness.

Heather's serious legal expertise and plain talk unravels confusing student loan repayment information - once and for all. Heather loves Public Service Loan Forgiveness, but the requirements can be confusing. She knows how to break it down for you step-by-step so it makes sense once and for all. More information is available on Heather's website. Participants are invited to a social hour following the presentation.

December Graduate Loan Advising

Friday, September 30 — Noon - 12:50 p.m. — Room 114
Tom Stuart, Assistant Director, Washburn University Financial Aid, will give a short presentation regarding the process of consolidating loans and what needs to be done administratively for exit counseling. There will be plenty of time for questions. This event is sponsored by the Professional Development Office, Dean of Students, and Washburn University Financial Aid. Lunch will be provided to those students who sign up on Symplicity.

Personal Appointments with Housing and Credit Counseling

Wednesday, October 5 — 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. — Faculty Reading Room & Kansas Room
Representatives from Housing and Credit Counseling will be available for individual appointments with students. Appointments must be made on Symplicity.

Mentor-Mentee Reception

Monday, September 19 — 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.— Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center
All mentors and student mentees are invited to get acquainted at this event sponsored by the Office of Professional Development and the Office of Alumni Services.

The Washburn Law Mentor Program is designed to give first-year students a connection to the community and a resource for discussing issues related to law school and the legal profession. The program also provides an excellent opportunity for area alumni to re-connect with the School of Law and interact with students at a level they prefer.

3L Job Search Strategies: A Roadmap for Fall 2011

Wednesday, August 24 — Noon — Room 102
This seminar was specifically targeted to third-year students and provided a timeline and strategies for pursuing post-graduate employment. It answered the question, "What should I be doing right now?"

Careers in Prosecution - Panel Discussion

Tuesday, August 23 & Thursday, August 25 — Noon — Room 102
Attorneys from several district/county attorney's office talked about their work as prosecutors. This program was highly recommended for anyone considering a career in prosecution and who plans to apply for internships in prosecuting attorney offices.
