Washburn Law officially opened with 41 students September 1903 at 118 W 8th in Topeka, Kansas. Its purpose was to "furnish facilities for legal training and preparation of the practice of law as a profession, equal to those offered anywhere and to encourage the systematic study of general jurisprudence, legal history and the fundamental principles of government."
