Washburn University School of Law's Children and Family Law Center prepares law students to provide high quality legal representation for children and to advocate to improve the quality of justice for children and their families.
Students partner with faculty members, practicing lawyers, judges, social workers and mental health professionals in an educational program designed to provide them with the knowledge and tools they will need to represent both child and adult clients successfully.
In addition to the traditional classes, the Center offers students training in crucial skills such as counseling, negotiation, mediation, interdisciplinary research and advocacy.
Please note: The Children and Family Law Center is an advocacy center for children. It is not a "live client" center and does not handle individual cases. The Center deals with policy issues — welfare reform, protection of children in state care and in custody cases generally. The Washburn Law Clinic does handle client cases but is able to take only a limited number of family law cases each semester.
