Photograph: Edward Kainen.Edward L. Kainen, shareholder in the Las Vegas, Nevada law firm of Ecker & Kainen, Chartered, will visit Washburn University School of Law on April 6-7, 2009 as a Children and Family Law Center Practitioner in Residence.

Mr. Kainen received his undergraduate degrees from the University of South Florida in 1985, and his Juris Doctor Degree from Washburn University School of Law in 1988. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and has achieved the highest rating available by the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. Mr. Kainen is admitted to the practice of law in the state and federal courts of Nevada, Florida and Kansas.

Mr. Kainen practiced Commercial and Business Litigation with Mitrani, Rynor & Gallegos, of Miami, Florida, where he was Of Counsel from 1988-1989. He was an Assistant State Attorney, prosecuting felonies and environmental crimes, in Florida from 1989-1994. During the same period, as a Senior Trial Attorney, he also supervised investigations and served in an advisory capacity to State and Federal law enforcement agencies. Mr. Kainen was the law clerk for The Honorable Robert E. Gaston, District Court Judge in the Family Division, Las Vegas, 1994-1995. Since 1995, he has been a member of Ecker & Kainen, Chartered, which is an 'AV' rated firm and is featured in the Bar Register of Preeminent Attorneys.

Mr. Kainen has taught Continuing Legal Education programs on various aspects of Family Law, Motion Practice, Evidence, Professionalism and Ethics, as well as diverse topics in Criminal Law, Jury Trials, and Voir Dire. He has been published in the Nevada Family Law Report, authored the Manual for Family Court Law Clerks, still in use in several departments of the Family Court, and co-authored Nuts & Bolts of Family Law. Since 1997, he has coordinated and co-presented the annual Nevada Continuing Legal Education program by the same name.

Mr. Kainen is the immediate past Chair of the State Bar's Family Law Section; was Vice-Chair (2001-2003) and is an elected member of Family Law Section's Executive Council since 1997. He has served on the Family Court Bench Bar Committee from 1997-2004 and was its Chair from 1999-2004. Active in the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association, he is a frequent participant in national seminars. Mr. Kainen has served on the Advisory Board for the Clark County Self Help Center since 2000 and has received special recognition for his pro bono service, including being named Pro Bono Attorney of the Year. He is also a Nevada Certified Attorney Arbitrator and is a Master in the Nevada American Inn of Court.
