Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)
The Tax and Estate Planning Association at Washburn University School of Law will again this year assist individuals and families in the community with preparing and filing their tax returns.
Please note: Tax assistance is not available at Washburn Law. Washburn Law students are providing assistance at the Central Park Community Center VITA on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday afternoons from noon-3 p.m. through April 12, 2008. The community center is located at 1534 SW Clay St. For more information about tax assistance at the community center please call (785) 368-3796.
The following tax information, as appropriate, is needed to complete tax forms:
- A copy of your 2006 tax return.
- Birth dates and social security numbers for the taxpayer, spouse and any children in the household born before December 31, 2007.
- W-2 forms from all 2007 jobs.
- 1099-G form, if unemployment insurance benefits were received at any time in 2007.
- 1099-INT, if bank interest was recieved in 2007.
- All other 1098 and 1099 forms.
- Any statements received from a mortgage company during 2007.
- Any notices sent to the worker by the IRS in 2007.
- Workers with Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs) should bring the ITIN card sent to them by the IRS.
- W-2 G Gambling Income
- 2007 (Homestead) Property Tax Form, name of landlord, address and phone number.
- Voided check or savings account number where a refund will be direct deposited.
