"The Washburn environment makes it easy to enjoy teaching. There is a great collegiality among the faculty and a strong commitment to the success of the students. Through the vehicles of classroom teaching, the Law Clinic, and the Centers for Excellence, the faculty works toward the common goal of providing students with a firm foundation in the theoretical and practical applications of the law. I am proud to be a part of that tradition."

Janet Thompson Jackson joined Washburn University School of Law in 2004. Professor Jackson values her experiences as an instructor in both doctrinal and clinical education. She teaches Property in addition to courses that she has had the opportunity to introduce into the Washburn law school curriculum, Entrepreneurial Law and Race and the Law. She also teaches and supervises students in the Small Business and Transactional Law Clinic, which she initiated at Washburn in 2005. Professor Jackson is a frequent speaker in the area of nonprofit law and governance and serves on the boards of Mainstream Inc., d/b/a the Kansas Nonprofit Association and the Brown Foundation for Educational Equity, Excellence, and Research. Professor Jackson's scholarship links her interests in entrepreneurship, property, and social justice for low-income communities.

Prior to teaching at Washburn, Professor Jackson taught and supervised students as a Clinical Fellow in the Community Development Clinic at the University of Baltimore School of Law and taught legal writing and civil rights law as an Adjunct Professor at the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law. Prior to teaching, Professor Jackson was Executive Director of Families Forward, Inc. in Washington, D.C., a nonprofit organization that provides housing and employment services to homeless and low-income families. Before working in the nonprofit sector, Professor Jackson practiced law at Cole, Raywid and Braverman L.L.P. in the District of Columbia and Buchanan Ingersoll P.C. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
