Professor Smith joins Washburn University School of Law faculty as the James R. Ahrens Visiting Professor of Law. Professor Smith taught at Washburn University School of Law from August 1982 through June 2003 in the areas of torts, legal research, and writing, and products liability.

Most recently, she has been a professor of law at Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad Law Center since August 2003. She previously taught at Temple University Beasley School of Law, Santa Clara University School of Law and the T.C. Williams School of Law in Richmond, Virginia. Professor Smith has taught undergraduate courses in legal studies, the American legal process, women's legal rights and constitutional law at several universities. After earning her law degree, she served as special assistant attorney general, Office of Attorney General, for the State of Minnesota.
