About Downloads
Staff at Washburn University School of Law Library have created bibliographic records for titles in the Heinonline.org Legal Classics Library. These records are added to OCLC.
Two types of files are available for download: OCLC Connexion local files containing OCLC number search keys and files containing MARC records.
OCLC Connexion Local Files
OCLC Connexion local files are provided for OCLC libraries that prefer to download records directly from OCLC prior to loading them to a local system.
To use a local file:
- Right-click the release number link.
- Select 'Save target as...' from the popup menu.
- Navigate to the location where other local files are saved on your computer or network.
- Click 'Save.'
- Start the OCLC Connexion Client.
- Select 'File' from the menu bar, then click 'Local File Manager.'
- Double-click the downloaded file in the Local File Manager dialog box to select it as the active local file.
- Click 'Close.'
- Use the other options under 'Batch' from the menu bar to add/edit entries in the local file or process the search keys in the local file and retrieve OCLC records.
MARC Record Files
Note: Prior to an initial export or load of MARC records for a Legal Classics Library release to a local system, it is suggested that a test load be performed using the sample file of three records. Titles in the sample file are:
- Ancient law
- Commentaries on the law of agency as a branch of commercial and maritime jurisprudence, with occasional illustrations from the civil and foreign law
- Corporations : a study of the origin and development of great business combinations and of their relation to the authority of the state.
A file of MARC records has been created for each Legal Classsics Library release. Notes:
- Each record includes an OCLC number.
- Records in the files are in standard MARC format and should be compatible with systems that can load MARC records. The files can also be used with:
- OCLC Connexion Client (change file extension from .mrc to .dat before importing to Connexion).
- MarcEdit by Terry Reese.
To use a MARC record file:
- Right-click the release number link.
- Select 'Save target as...' from the popup menu.
- Navigate to a location on your computer or network where the file should be saved.
- Click 'Save.'
- Load the records to your local system according to local procedures.
