Periodicals

Sampling of Washburn Law Library Periodicals Collection.

The library periodical collection contains most of the journal titles included in the major legal periodical indexes. In total, the Library subscribes to over 4,000 titles. Older bound periodicals are shelved alphabetically by title on the fourth floor. These periodicals may be check out for three weeks. Current issues of journals and law reviews are located in the Reserve area behind the circulation desk. These items may be checked out for two hours, and must stay in the library.

In addition to law journals and law reviews, the law library subscribes to the bar journals of each state. The most recent volumes are located in the reserve area behind the circulation desk. The library's permanent collection of State Bar journals are available on microfiche. Current popular magazines, legal, local, and national newspapers are in a reading lounge on the second floor.

The online Index to Legal Periodicals (ILP), covering law journals from 1981 to the present, is available to students and the general public. The ILP provides a convenient search tool for finding law journal articles by subject, keyword, and author. Another online index available is LegalTrac, with coverage starting in 1980. It indexes about 800 law titles plus law-related articles from over a 1,000 business and general interest periodicals. Other paper and electronic periodical indexes are available.
