Reserve Materials
Heavily-used classroom and legal reference materials are shelved behind the Circulation Desk in the Reserve Collection so that all patrons have access to them. These items may be checked out for two hours at a time.
The Law Library staff place items on Reserve for several reasons. First, items that are in high demand from a variety of patrons are put on Reserve. These items consist of such items as practice handbooks from the Kansas Bar Association, all titles in the West's Nutshell Series, and the Topeka City Code.
Second, treatises and study aids for core classes are also put on Reserve. Treatises and study aids included Hornbooks and the Understanding series from Lexis.
Third, all of the current periodical issues are kept on reserve. Usually, periodical issues remain on Reserve until a volume is complete. The issues are then collected by the Bindery Specialist and sent to the bindery. Approximately one month later the bound periodical volume returns and is placed on the fourth floor of the library.
Finally, many faculty members place materials in the Reserve Collection for their students. These materials may be outlines, exams, or extra reading materials.
