The Computer Services Coordinator is responsible for meeting the day to day hardware and software needs of the law school community. All duties entail some original design and development activities. All tasks require frequent consultation with affected users and some day to day computer coordination between the Law School, the Law Library, and the Academic Computer Center.

Activities are taken to ensure that adequate service is rendered to law school/library users. All action is reviewed on a continuous basis by the Associate Director of the Law Library.

Duties

  1. Supports the Washburn University Law Library Instructional Computer Facility by:
    1. Providing cost/budget analysis and semi-annual reports to optimize the benefits of the investment.
    2. Recommending specific hardware and software needed to accomplish the approved design.
    3. Coordinating requests for purchase of hardware and software.
    4. Installing software received either by purchase, donation, or for trial.
    5. Providing annual budget recommendations to the Associate Director.
    6. Serving (as requested) as the Law School representative on staff level technical committees concerning automation issues.
    7. Making recommendations as to the purchase of instructional material that will aid in the computer center (to include all CALI materials).
    8. Developing Standard Operating Procedures for the care of disks and equipment. Training users so that these procedures are followed.
    9. Designing and implementing adequate back-up routines.
    10. Investigating possibilities of Washburn becoming an alpha and beta-test site for equipment or software.
    11. Designing an out-reach program aimed at increasing law faculty awareness of lab resources.
    12. Maintaining laptops used by law faculty, law school and library staff.
  2. Provides general instructional assistance to law faculty, law school and library staff, and patrons by:
    1. Performing group instruction on use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software.
    2. Providing individual instruction on use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software.
    3. Answering questions concerning the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database management software.
  3. Supports and supervises the Law School faculty needs (hardware and software) by:
    1. Recommending hardware and software purchases.
    2. Installing hardware and software.
    3. Answering questions concerning use of data processing equipment.
  4. Supports and supervises the Law Administration automation needs (hardware and software) by:
    1. Recommending hardware and software purchases and submitting an annual report for budget purposes.
    2. Installing hardware and software.
    3. Assisting in design, development, and use of software applications.
  5. Supports and supervises all automation systems (hardware and software) for the Law Library by:
    1. Determining needs through interviewing staff and patrons, observation, research, etc.
    2. Designing the overall system for approval by the Law Library Administration.
    3. Providing cost/budget analysis to optimize the benefits of the investment.
    4. Recommending the specific hardware and software needed to accomplish the approved design.
    5. Processing requests for purchase of hardware and software.
    6. Receiving purchased hardware and software.
    7. Installing all hardware and software received either by purchase, donation, or for trial.
    8. Providing annual budget recommendations.
    9. Providing programming support when necessary.
  6. Responsible for all Law School and Library computer hardware inventory by:
    1. Receiving all hardware acquired.
    2. Maintaining the inventory list for accuracy and providing input of necessary changes.
    3. Providing a secure facility.
    4. Providing for an environmentally safe facility.
  7. Responsible for all Law School and Library computer software inventory by:
    1. Receiving and completing warranty registration and licensing forms for all software acquired either by purchase, donation, or for trial.
    2. Maintaining the inventory list for accuracy and providing input of necessary changes.
    3. Providing a secure storage facility.
    4. Providing an environmentally safe facility.
  8. Providing the direct contact with all vendors concerning purchases and maintenance of automation systems.
  9. Designing a quality control program aimed at the duties previously described.
  10. Other tasks as assigned by the Associate Director.
