Assists the Government Documents Librarian by processing and cataloging government documents. Maintains the microforms collection. Helps maintain a WWW site on Kansas Documents. Works with group discussion to maintain their members. Assists patrons with the scanning system and images, making signs, and other graphical projects that come up. Works with maintaining the Law School inventory database. Supervises and trains adaptive technology research assistants as needed. Other duties include training and supervising student workers for government documents. Performs other duties and support needs as assigned by the Government Documents Librarian. The Government Documents Librarian reviews all tasks.

Duties:

  1. Federal and State Document Processing (20%)
    1. Maintains a database for all new documents, removes discards and incorporates all changes for federal/state documents on the shelflist, thus making them accessible to the library patrons.
    2. Check in serials on the Innovative Serials module database.
    3. Prepares the documents for shelving or filing by making boxes, labels, and binders for looseleaf documents as needed.
    4. Updates the item # lists as needed coordinating the database with GPO records.
    5. Maintains a database of statistics for the annual ABA statistical survey.
    6. Provides backup for student workers who put sudoc call numbers on documents, stamp the documents with the library property stamp, and shelve the documents.
  2. Supervisory Responsibilities (15%)
    1. Trains student workers in putting sudoc call numbers on the documents, stamping the documents with the library property stamp and shelving the documents. Also trains student workers to be able to enter documents on the shelf list. Trains student workers to return the microfiche files placed in return boxes after use.
    2. Works with student workers to do other tasks as they are needed.
  3. Microfiche (10%)
    1. Updates a reference database for non-depository microfiche.
    2. Duplicates fiche-to-fiche as needed.
    3. Maintains Reader-Printer & Reader-Scanner (change toner, paper, lens, etc.).
    4. Assists patrons in use of microfiche and reader-printer.
  4. Copy Cataloging (5%)
    1. Edits with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, monographic MARC records database for inclusion in the Online Public Catalog, making the government documents accessible to library patrons.
  5. Computer related responsibilities (5%)
    1. Adds new and checks present html Links of the WWW site on Kansas information.
    2. Other support as needed.
  6. List manager (25%)
    1. Adds new subscribers and selects appropriate messages.
    2. Keeps track of maintenance needs and updates.
    3. Coordinates with IT across campus as needed.
  7. Graphics (15%)
    1. Interacts with patrons, students, faculty, and staff with their questions on scanning.
    2. Assists patrons, students, faculty, and staff with their questions on graphics.
    3. Makes signs as needed for the library.
    4. Advises management of needs in the way of equipment, software, etc.
  8. Maintains an inventory database. (5%)
    1. Works with campus on discards as needed.
    2. Keeps a list of new items.
    3. Keeps a record of previous items.
  9. Supervises adaptive technology research assistants (5%)
    1. Maintains equipment and software.
    2. Liaison between faculty and research assistants on work needed.
    3. Trains research assistants on using equipment and software.
