Washburn Law Provides 'Bang for the Buck' According to National Jurist
Washburn University School of Law rates a Very Good Value by the National Jurist in their March 2002 cover story, "Best School for Your Money." The survey compared tuition, bar pass rates, unemployment rates, median grants, clinic slots and faculty student ratios. Only 10 public schools were rated higher than Washburn, and only one of these is in the Law School Admission Council's Midwest Region.
"Washburn Law School enjoys a national reputation for its leadership in legal information technology, for its dedicated faculty and staff, and for its innovative curricular programs," says Dennis R. Honabach, dean of the law school.
Students who consider the cost versus the benefits of law schools during their selection process find Washburn's high rating is because of:
- A 100-year tradition of practical legal education.
- Low tuition: $9,000 for residents and $14,600 for non-residents; non-residents can qualify for in-state tuition rates after only six months.
- Nearly $1,000,000 in scholarships reduces tuition.
- A bar passage rate exceeding 80%.
- A placement rate of 96% among graduates.
- A student-faculty ratio of 14.9 to 1, one of many reasons why Washburn Law is known for its student-friendly, supportive environment.
- Consistent ranking among the "Most Wired Law Schools" in annual surveys, and Washlaw, our award winning legal research website, sets the tone for the widespread use of technology throughout our program.
- A wide range of opportunities for experiential learning, including participation in the Washburn Law Clinic, one of the first in-house, hands-on law clinics in the country.
- The newly renovated Robinson Courtroom enables Washburn students to master the use of cutting edge courtroom technology.
- Certificate programs in Family Law, Natural Resources Law, and Taxation. In addition, the faculty is currently developing signature programs in Advocacy and Business Law.
Washburn Law School's recognition by National Jurist is just the most recent since 1994 by this publication. Washburn ranked 5th as one of "The Best Law Schools," 2nd in the survey of "The Happiest Law Students," in the top 20 among law libraries, and among the 30 'most wired' law schools.
