Donald Rupert Honored as Alumni Fellow
Donald Rupert, Class of 1976, was honored as the Washburn University School of Law's 2003 Alumni Fellow at a luncheon held Friday, October 24, 2003. The program, in its 11th year, was started in 1992 by Washburn's Alumni Association as a way to recognize distinguished alumni.
Donald Rupert is a partner in the Chicago office of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw, a multi-national law firm with more than 1,300 attorneys in seven time zones who advise many of the worlds largest commercial and financial institutions, multi-lateral organizations and national governments.
His twenty-seven year career has been centered on the field of intellectual property law with an emphasis on complex technology matters including patent, copyright and trademark infringement.
Ruppert practices before numerous federal and state courts. His negotiating experience includes domestic and international licensing and litigation settlements. He is skilled in patent prosecution in the mechanical, electrical, computer, chemical and pharmaceutical arts. He was lead trial counsel in a 50-day patent infringement jury trial, the third longest civil jury trial in U.S. federal courts in the year it was tried.
He has been admitted to the bar in Texas, Illinois, the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois, including trial bar, U.S. District Court, Central District of Illinois, the U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Supreme Court and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Canadian Patent Office.
He is published frequently in professional journals related to his field and speaks at many seminars. He is listed in Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.
Rupert is a member of the advisory board of the Center of Intellectual Property Law and Information Technology at DePaul University College of Law and served on the Washburn Law School Association Board of Governors from 1987-1995.
