Center Director Visits Alumni in Albuquerque and Phoenix

Photograph: Michael Kaye visiting with Washburn Law alum.Professor Michael Kaye, Director of the Center for Excellence in Advocacy, visited alumni in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Phoenix, Arizona, February 6 and 7, 2004. He described the functioning of the Center, its development to date, and gave an overview of recent activities.

In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Professor Kaye met with alumni at the home of Senior U.S. District Judge John E. Conway and his wife Ann. In Phoenix, Arizona, Kaye met with alumni at the Arizona Club. At both meetings alumni learned about the growth of trial advocacy training at Washburn Law, the proposed creation of new advocacy courses and the excitement generated by the Lecture and Luncheon speakers series, the Advocacy Scholar in Residence, and the death penalty conference held November 2004. Kaye also described the upcoming trial advocacy/tribal advocacy conference.

Many of the alumni at both meetings have enjoyed careers in advocacy as prosecutors, civil litigators, and trial judges. The Center has tapped the talent and enthusiasm of Washburn Law's diverse alumni base to enhance the educational experience of current law students. It was apparent from the meetings that alumni do not forget the teachers or the value of the education received at Washburn Law.
