Collaborative Family Law Workshop

The Children and Family Law Center co-sponsored a Collaborative Family Law Workshop with the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, March 25-26, 2004. Collaborative Family Law is a recently developed "model" for ending marriages. This model is radically different because it employs a contractual commitment to use a process that avoids litigation.

Over the course of the two-day workshop participants obtained a background on Collaborative Law so they understand the paradigm shift, were introduced to the Basic Interest Based Negotiation Model which serves as the foundation of Collaborative Law, provided an understanding of the choreography and ethical concerns, and provided guidance for conducting the initial interview. Several role-playing exercises were included in the Workshop.
