Washburn Law Community Service Projects Help Topeka Organizations
Washburn Law welcomed 140 new students as its Fall 2006 incoming class on August 14. Students attended Torts class each day during First Week, got together in structured study groups as part of Washburn Law's Expert Learning Program (Ex-L), and heard presentations from law school faculty and staff. The first week of classes and activities helps develop a spirit of camaraderie among the new students.
First week activities culminated on Saturday, August 19, when new law students participated in community service activities at six locations around Topeka:
- Topeka Zoo
- Lexington Park Assisted Living
- The Villages, Inc.
- Topeka Association for Retarded Citizens (TARC)
- YWCA
- Let's Help
These projects allowed law students to experience firsthand the importance of maintaining connections with the community while helping to foster a sense of responsibility for public service.
