Margann Bennett Receives KBA Outstanding Service Award
Washburn University School of Law faculty who have received the Kansas Bar Association Outstanding Service Award include James Concannon in 1983 and 2003; Linda Elrod in 1985; Lynette Petty in 1997; and Sheila Reynolds in 1999.
Margann Bennett has been selected to receive the Outstanding Service Award by the Kansas Bar Association (KBA). Margann is one of six lawyers in the state to receive this recognition. She will be honored at a dinner on June 21, 2008 during the Annual Meeting of the KBA in Topeka.
The award is given to recognize lawyers and judges for their service that significantly advances the administration of justice to the legal profession.
Margann joined Washburn University School of Law in 2003 as Director of Professional Development and Continuing Legal Education. In addition to her career planning and CLE development work for the law school, she has been proactive in coordinating CLE efforts between Washburn and the KBA.
In 2003 she was appointed to the KBA's CLE Committee and has actively participated in the Committee's activities since that time. The award recognizes Margann's development of a KBA-sponsored Practical Skills Program which met the requirements of the CLE Commission and provided meaningful information for new lawyers.
"Wherever Margann worked, she was a mentor and a teacher," said former CLE Committee Chair Mary Beth Blake, with the law firm of Polisnelli Shalton Flanigan Suelthause PC, Kansas City, Missouri. "Margann is an enthusiastic supporter of the Bar Association and constantly encourages young attorneys to participate in its activities."
Margann graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law where she was a member of the University of Kansas Law Review and president of the Student Bar Association. She was admitted to practice law in Kansas in 1996 and worked for Hershberger, Patterson, Jones & Roth in Wichita. She was recruited from Hershberger to Shook, Hardy & Bacon where she practiced in the employment law division. She was also a supervising attorney for the Summer Associate Program. In 2001 she joined West Group as a corporate account manager before joining Washburn in 2003. Margann is also licensed in Missouri.
