"All donations we receive will help to fund our organization to provide services to the citizens of Topeka," Gray said.

Let's Help is celebrating 40 years of service to the Topeka community. The highlight of the celebration is a Dinner and Silent Auction on July 17.

Jodi Litfin observed that "at Washburn University School of Law volunteering is very important, and as attorneys we do volunteer activities. While we are in school, to learn to give back to charity and to volunteer our time, as well as money, teaches us all a good lesson."

Each fall, Washburn University School of Law holds an event known as the Barrister's Ball and Charity Auction. Barrister's Ball Committee members volunteer to solicit professors, staff, and local merchants for donations that will be used as auction items to raise money for a designated charity. The Committee also organizes a semi-formal ball, which includes dinner, music, dancing, and a live auction.

During the week prior to the ball, students, professors and staff are encouraged to participate in a silent auction. This auction continues throughout the Barrister's Ball dinner. Afterward, two professors don their auctioneer hats and try to raise the bids of the most popular items through a live auction.

"Special thanks to the Barrister's Ball Committee, Dean Anders, Betty Fischer, professors and staff, area merchants, and other legal groups, including the Washburn Student Bar Association, BarBri, Lexis, and Westlaw," Litfin said. "Thank you for making this year's Barrister's Ball a success."
