LeJuerrne Presents 'Advising the Entrepreneur and Small Business Client'
On October 26, 2009, the Washburn University School of Law's Business Law Society hosted Rick LeJuerrne, the Regional Director of the Washburn University Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and adjunct faculty member at Washburn University where he teaches Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Law. Mr. LeJuerrne joined the SBDC in 2003. Since that time, the SBDC has consulted with over 2,000 clients and provided seminars to more than 4,000 participants, helping entrepreneurs with everything from starting a business to accessing capital to perfecting their marketing strategies.
In his lunchtime presentation to students, entitled "Advising the Entrepreneur and Small Business Client," Mr. LeJuerrne explained the purpose of the SBDC, and its relationship with the Small Business Administration, the State of Kansas, and Washburn University. He also provided an overview of what that SBDC does: helping potential small business owners write a business plan, providing marketing advice, and helping with start-up issues. Mr. LeJuerrne described the array of management, legal and accounting questions that small businesses encounter.
Of particular interest to students was Mr. LeJuerrne's detailed description of the structure and key points in a strong business plan. He walked through the ways a business plan can provide a roadmap of the proposed business and help facilitate financing, and he outlined the key components of a plan, including discussions of management, marketing and money.
