This award recognizes the efforts of full-time faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to higher education by their teaching and, primarily, their research efforts. Award criteria include quality of research, significant contribution of "new knowledge" to the recipient's field, and consistent productive research/creative activity.

Washburn Law nominated Elrod in recognition of her dedication to scholarship over the years and the influence she has had on local, national, and international law and policy. That she has managed to maintain her level of scholarly productivity while publishing a journal, teaching, and mentoring our students, and serving the Law School in so many ways, is an inspiration for us all.

As one of her colleagues said in support of her nomination, “Linda Elrod is a passionate advocate for children and families. She is a person of immense accomplishment in the profession and a role model for her students.” Another recognized her as being a “role model to those of us who aspire to make a difference in the world though our scholarship.”

A former student praised her for being “a role model for tolerance, a teacher who educates and prepares others for how to think,” and for “constantly challeng[ing] [him] to think outside the box and to consider all of the perspectives on any issues rather than just the one most comfortable for [him].”
