Enrolling in Litigation Clinic

Due to limited enrollment, students must apply and be selected for enrollment in the Litigation Clinic. Students should watch for an all-law-school-student email approximately one month before each enrollment period begins; the email will contain detailed instructions about how to apply for clinic. Applications will be reviewed and the students selected for clinic will be notified before each enrollment period begins. Students will then be automatically enrolled through the dean's office.

Our clinic "law firm" is staffed by experienced attorneys who are also law school professors. Interns work under the supportive supervision of these attorneys and are guided through every aspect of representing the clinic's clients. The litigation clinic provides representation in these practice areas:

Once their applications have been accepted, students enroll for one semester for either 4 or 5 credit hours in one specific practice area. Students who excel in their first semester of clinic may be selected to continue for a second semester as an Advanced Clinic student for 1 to 3 credits.

Conflict of Interest and Certification Requirements

Because of potential conflicts of interests, students who are working for the Topeka City Attorney, the Shawnee County District Attorney, or the Shawnee County District Court Judiciary may not concurrently enroll in Law Clinic. Students must be eligible to apply for a legal intern permit as set forth in Supreme Court Rule 715. The Law Clinic will not accept the enrollment of any student not eligible to apply for admission to the bar of the State of Kansas under Supreme Court Rule 709. Interns must pay a $50.00 fee to the Clerk of the Supreme Court for their student practice certification.

Litigation Clinic Prerequisites
