Study Group Leaders Needed for Fall 2011 Entering Class
How to Apply
Applications are due no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2011.
Applications must be sent via e-mail to Professor Michael Schwartz (michael.schwartz [at] washburn.edu). Attach your resume to the e-mail and answer the following three questions:
- Why are you interested in being a study group leader?
- Why do some study groups work well and some fail?
- What have you done in the past that demonstrates that you would make a good study group leader and why?
Strong applicants will be interested in serving others, open-minded, flexible and teachable.
Please contact Professor Schwartz with questions.
Thirty to thirty-five current law students who will be in their second or third year as of fall 2011 are needed to serve as structured study group leaders for the fall 2011 entering students. Study group leaders work 6-8 hours per week throughout the fall semester, except during First Week, when 15+ hours are required. First Week starts and the first study group meeting with assigned students will be on Monday, August 15, 2011 from 3:15-5:00 p.m.
Study group leaders are paid $8.00 per hour. Top-of-the-class grades are not a prerequisite, but a law school GPA of 2.5 or better is needed to apply. You must be able to participate in, and must participate in, the study group leader training program.
The study group leader training program consists of reading a 60-page training manual and participating in two, three-hour training sessions, either in May (Option 1) or in August (Option 2):
- Option 1: Monday, May 16th and Tuesday, May 17th, 6:30-9:30 p.m. both nights
- Option 2: Thursday, August 11th and Friday, August 12th, 6:30-9:30 p.m. both nights
Attendance is required at both sessions in either Option 1 or Option 2 to be a study group leader. In addition, Professor Schwartz meets with all study group leaders one hour per week throughout the fall semester so you will need to block out one day a week at noon (lunch provided).
