Washburn Law Journal
Editor's Note
Volume 40, No. 1 (Fall 2000)

This year, the Washburn Law Journal proudly celebrates forty years of publication. Since its inception in 1960, the Journal has published hundreds of articles, essays, lectures, notes and comments, and has provided the legal community with both a resource for practitioners and a forum for scholarly debate.

Continuing this tradition, we are pleased and proud to present the annual Foulston & Siefkin lecture, given this year by Professor Akhil Reed Amar, nationally renowned Southmayd Professor at Yale Law School. Entitled Becoming Lawyers in the Shadow of Brown, Professor Amar's article examines the effect of Brown v. Board of Education on future generations of lawyers. His topic is especially fitting considering the relationship of Washburn Law School graduates to this landmark case. Professor Amar's article is complimented by articles from other recognized authors in the field of constitutional law, as well as a commentary from Cheryl Brown-Henderson, sister of Linda Brown and daughter of Reverend Oliver L. Brown, the original plaintiff.

The Washburn Law Journal would like to take this opportunity to thank the many editors, writers, and subscribers of the Journal that have provided their support over the last forty years. Unbelievably, for thirty years of this period, the Journal has been under the direction of only three faculty advisors: Distinguished Professor of Law David L. Ryan, the late Professor John F. Kuether, and Professor Myrl L. Duncan. In its early years, the Journal was advised by Professor Walter D. Navin, Jr., Professor Edward Robinson, Professor Don P. Stim Professor William F. Harvey, and Professor Jay S. Brown. These professors have given enormously of themselves in order to improve the quality of the Journal, and to give its members a priceless educational experience.

The Journal would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to the faculty members, past and present, of Washburn Law School. We believe the reputation of the Journal is that of a highly-regarded legal publication, and this achievement would not be possible without the support of our faculty and staff. Additionally, the Journal would like to thank Tonya Worley, secretary to the Journal for nineteen years, for her outstanding service.
