BTLC Fall 2021 Programs On Bias in Job Postings and Kansas Mythical "Common Sense"

The Business and Transactional Law Center (BTLC) hosted two speakers Fall 2021 as part of its Lunch and Learn series.

Photograph: Danielle Hall.Danielle Hall, '09, presented "Addressing Bias in Job Postings to Create a More Inclusive Hiring Process" on October 28, 2021. Ms. Hall discussed issues concerning diversity and inclusion as part of the hiring process, and she gave her insight into these topics. She also talked about how the next generation of lawyers will have a profound impact on the legal work environment. Ms. Hall serves as the Executive Director for the Kansas Lawyers Assistance Program.

Photograph: Blair Loving.Blair Loving, '16, presented "Tips, Trips, and Traps: Practical Applications in Non-urban Kansas of the Mythical 'Common Sense'" on November 11, 2021. Mr. Loving discussed tips on how to increase the odds a judge will rule in a lawyer's favor; what to do when the legislature screws up; and handling the intersection between "how it's always been done" and "well, what the law actually says is..." He also spoke to students about his firsthand experiences as a managing partner of Hope, Mills, Bolin, Collins & Ramsey LLP.
