Terrence Oben Is Fall 2020 BTLC Practitioner in Residence

Photograph: Terrence Oben.In Fall of 2020, Terence Oben, '11, paid a virtual visit to Washburn Law as the Business and Transactional Law Center's (BTLC) Practitioner in Residence. Mr. Oben is the founder and CEO of Oben Legal, one of the world's leading management oversight boutiques. On November 9, Mr. Oben gave a Lunch and Learn presentation entitled, "Re-Imagining Compliance Oversight: Trends and Opportunities." On November 11, he served as a guest lecturer in Professor Amy Westbrook's Corporate Compliance: Law and Policy class.

During Mr. Oben's visit, he discussed his journey to building his own successful compliance consulting business. He also talked about different compliance-related careers that Washburn Law students might consider, and his own optimism regarding compliance as a future profession for our graduates.

In the decade since graduating from Washburn Law, Mr. Oben has worked with a number of Fortune 500 companies, leading a wide range of compliance-related projects, strategies, and initiatives. Mr. Oben talked to the students about his work with banks and financial entities as they sought to create effective compliance programs. In his practice, he develops, implements, and licenses custom ethics and compliance management programs for companies around the world. The success of Oben Legal is a testament to Mr. Oben's hard work and dedication to his clients, and we sincerely appreciate his taking the time to talk with our students.
