Tips for Staying Safe
- Safety Tips:
- Memorize 1153. Keep the Washburn Police phone number, 785-670-1153, in your cell and in your room.
- Look up! Don't get so engrossed in text messaging or iPod surfing that you let your guard down.
- Lock it up. Never leave your room or personal items unattended.
- Don't walk alone. Use the buddy system to make sure you’re never alone after normal campus hours.
- Know the people you live with. Never let strangers into the residence halls or apartment complex without proper ID.
- Plan the safest route. Know the locations of emergency call boxes.
- Sign up for iAlert! Take responsibility for your safety.
- Trust your gut. If something seems suspicious, call Washburn Police at 785-670-1153.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Don't take unnecessary risks with personal safety.
- Play it safe. Obey campus rules and state laws about alcohol and drug use.
- Counseling services are available by phone 24/7 at 785-670-3100 (includes a referral to our campus advocate, Molly Steffes-Herman).
- Medical services are available in Student Health Services in Morgan Hall (free or at cost to students).
