Note: you must be logged into your Washburn account to access the Sidebar. If a login isn't presented, it means that you are still logged in from a previous session. You should manually log out at the end of your sessions if you share your computer with others.
The Sidebar is a restricted resource/intranet for Washburn Law students, staff, and faculty/adjunct faculty. It utilizes software called Microsoft SharePoint, a file-storage system with a website interface (a place for data sharing) to help both small and large organizations, non-profits, and businesses/corporations to have an intranet. To keep our vernacular straight, we are calling our interconnected websites, the "Sidebar."
No, the SharePoint platform is purposefully restricted by Microsoft to the specific company's or university's email addresses. From there, each SharePoint site can be restricted further. Law students, staff, and faculty can access the Sidebar with their Washburn email address, which usually requires two-step, a.k.a. two-factor, verification using the Duo app on your smartphone. You may visit here for instructions to set up if you haven't already set up Duo on your smart phone or tablet.
The Washburn Law "website" and the "Sidebar" are two independent entities/platforms, although some information will be found in both locations and links will sometimes send you to one platform or the other. The Sidebar is meant to house the required daily operational information for those associated with Washburn Law to access, but aren't necessarily important to the public at large. For instance, a staff/faculty and student directory is available in the Sidebar, but only the staff/faculty directory is available on the website. Because these are two separate entities, doing a search on one platform does not connect/search the other.
Content in the Sidebar is managed primarily by the Washburn Law marketing department, but content is also provided from departments on their content-specific pages, while IT manages permissions and access in the Sidebar. The WSBA Sidebar is managed primarily by Washburn Student Bar Association (WSBA) officers assigned to update their site, with assistance from marketing and ITS as needed.
