Message from Dean Jackson

Hello, Washburn Law Alumni and Community,

We are less than one month into the new year and already exciting things are taking place at Washburn University. From a presidential announcement to the new placement of the eagle, things are shaping up to be another excellent year here at Washburn.

The most exciting news to kick off the semester was the announcement of our new university president. I am thrilled to welcome back Dr. JuliAnn Mazachek as the 15th president of Washburn University. Prior to her role at Midwestern State University, she spent 30 years at Washburn serving in several roles. I have already had the privilege of working closely with Dr. Mazachek and welcome her back to lead the university into its next chapter.

More specific to the law school, the new placement of the "Wings of Freedom" eagle statue took place only four days into the new year. Now prominently featured in the circle drive in front of the new building, our Legal Eagle will welcome the next generation of Washburn lawyers as they receive the most prestigious education we have to offer. We are anxious to begin the fall semester in our new home.

Having successfully concluded the fundraising campaign for our new home, there are still ample opportunities to support current law students. Next week, we will hold our annual Day of Giving. This year, we are asking our alumni and friends to come together on one day to raise money for one of two priorities: Washburn Law Clinic or Student Scholarships. Join us on Thursday, Feb. 2 by visiting washburngivingday.org and making a gift to Washburn Law. Each gift makes a difference for our students.

The buzz of a new semester and the anticipation for all that is to come is exhilarating. As we continue through the semester, we’ll keep you updated on all the exciting things happening at the law school. In the meantime, if you have questions, please reach out to me. I fervently believe that this is your law school and I'm always happy to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Jeff
